The Effect of Boundary Conditions within Pressure Convection–Diffusion Preconditioners
نویسندگان
چکیده
We explore choices of boundary conditions within pressure convection–diffusion preconditioners for the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. While these methods have been shown to be efficient, choosing the proper boundary conditions for the preconditioning operator is not well understood. In this paper, we first explore the effect of having “ideal” boundary conditions within the preconditioner. While not computationally feasible, the ideal boundary condition results highlight the importance of suitable boundary conditions. The remainder of the paper explores somewhat more practical approximations to the ideal conditions based on ILU factorizations and probing [5]. ∗This work was supported by Sandia National Labs. Boundary Conditions in Approximate Commutator Preconditioners for the Navier-stokes Equations
Boundary conditions are analyzed for a class of preconditioners used for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. We consider pressure convection-diffusion preconditioners [8, 12] as well as least-square commutator methods [2, 3], both of which rely on commutators of certain differential operators. The effectiveness of these methods has been demonstrated in various studies, but both methods ...
متن کاملKrylov-Subspace Preconditioners for Discontinuous Galerkin Finite Element Methods
Standard (conforming) finite element approximations of convection-dominated convectiondiffusion problems often exhibit poor stability properties that manifest themselves as nonphysical oscillations polluting the numerical solution. Various techniques have been proposed for the stabilisation of finite element methods (FEMs) for convection-diffusion problems, such as the popular streamline upwind...
متن کاملNatural Convection Heat Transfer within Octagonal Enclosure
The problem of steady, laminar and incompressible natural convection flow in an octagonalenclosure was studied. In this investigation, two horizontal walls were maintained at a constant hightemperature, two vertical walls were kept at a constant low temperature and all inclined walls wereconsidered adiabatic. The enclosure was assumed to be filled with a Bousinessq fluid. The studyincludes comp...

متن کاملA Comparison of Parallel Block Multi-level Preconditioners for the Incompressible Navier–stokes Equations
Over the past several years, considerable effort has been placed on developing efficient solution algorithms for the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. The effectiveness of these methods requires that the solution techniques for the linear subproblems generated by these algorithms exhibit robust and rapid convergence; These methods should be insensitive to problem parameters such as mesh s...
